Alexandrite -
the stone associated with the month of
June. Named after the Russian tsar Alexander II
(1818-1881). This beautiful gemstone, in it's true nature, is quite rare.
It will be found to come in colors of green or blue-green. It does however
seem to change into a soft shade of red or purplish-red in incandescent light.
Because of its expense and rarity, a synthetic Alexandrite
gemstone was recreated, or known as being lab grown or
simulated. It
should be noted though that when looking at this man-made stone, it is sometimes
necessary to have direct light on it to be able to distinguish it from the
Amethyst.
I have on display here my wire wrapped Alexandrite
jewellry pendants
which have been created by using rolled gold or sterling silver wire. I loved wrapping this stone because
it always brought a sense of calmness in doing it. Most all of my wire jewelry pieces
are
two to three inches in height, and some have accent beads to add to their
uniqueness.
As always, Mywireworks tries to
bring a sense of aesthetics to our pieces of jewellery and hope you enjoy them.
